Your Memories, Your Google Drive: How EventSnap Works
When we built EventSnap, we started with a simple question: Why should a photo sharing platform store your photos? The answer, we realized, is that it shouldn't. That insight shaped everything about how EventSnap works.
The Architecture: Direct-to-Drive
Unlike traditional platforms where files upload to company servers and then (maybe) sync elsewhere, EventSnap uses a direct-to-Drive architecture. Here's how it works, step by step:
- You sign in with Google โ EventSnap uses Google OAuth to securely connect to your Drive. We request permission only to create folders and upload files.
- You create an event โ A dedicated folder is automatically created in your Google Drive for this event.
- You share the QR code โ Download it, print it, or display it. Each event gets a unique QR code and upload link.
- Guests scan and upload โ They open the QR code with their phone camera, select photos/videos, and hit upload.
- Files go to your Drive โ Using the Google Drive API, every file is transferred directly to your event folder. EventSnap only stores metadata (file name, size, timestamp) for your dashboard tracking.
We never see, touch, or process your photos. We're a bridge, not a warehouse.
What Does That Mean for You?
Full-Resolution, Always
Because files go straight to Drive, there's no compression step. That 12MP wedding photo? It arrives in your Drive at full resolution. That 4K video? Full quality, no re-encoding.
No Storage Limits from Us
Your storage is your Google Drive storage. Start with 15 GB free, or use your existing Google One plan. EventSnap doesn't add any storage fees on top.
Instant Access
Photos appear in your Google Drive folder within moments of being uploaded. You can view them on your phone, tablet, or computer โ anywhere Google Drive works.
Your Data, Forever
Even if you cancel your EventSnap account, your photos stay in your Google Drive. We can't delete them, and we can't restrict your access. They're yours.
The Upload Experience for Guests
We put a lot of care into making the guest experience effortless:
- No app download โ The upload page opens directly in their phone's browser.
- No account required โ Guests don't need a Google account or any login.
- Drag-and-drop or tap-to-select โ Works naturally on any mobile device.
- Progress indicators โ Real-time upload progress so guests know their photos made it.
- Multi-file support โ Select dozens of photos at once.
What About Security?
Security is fundamental to this model:
- All connections are encrypted โ TLS/SSL (HTTPS) throughout the entire upload chain.
- Google OAuth 2.0 โ Industry-standard authentication. We never see your Google password.
- Scoped permissions โ We can only create folders and upload files. We cannot read, modify, or delete any other files in your Drive.
- Revocable access โ You can remove EventSnap's access from your Google Account permissions at any time.
Why This Model Is Better
The traditional model โ store everything on our servers, charge for access โ creates a fundamental misalignment between platform and user. The platform benefits from keeping your data; you benefit from controlling it.
EventSnap's direct-to-Drive model aligns our interests with yours. We succeed when you have a great event and collect amazing memories. Those memories live in your Drive โ not on our servers โ exactly where they should be.
Don't rent your memories. Own them.
